Switches, insurance, circuit interruptors, fist and panel sources of energy.
What is Lotto and EKED?
LOTO, “Lockout/Tagout”; and EKED is the approach “Make, Lock, Get Safety, Test” which includes the identification, separation, lock, labelling and verification of energy sources to prevent the machine from operating unexpectedly during maintenance, cleaning, setting or service and the release of stored energy.
Moving pieces, shells, counterweights and land drawings.
Pneumatic, hydraulic, gas, water and steam lines.
The main steps of the LOTO
- Work and all energy sources are determined.
- The affected employees are informed and the machine is stopped by normal method.
- Energy separation points are put into a safe location.
- The appropriate lock machine, personal lock and label are applied.
- The stored energy is discharged or saved.
- Try-out and the appropriate test method verify zero energy state.
- At the end of the work, the field is checked and a secure operation order is applied.
Which LOTO product should be selected?
Type of switch, mandal size, hole structure and panel space should be checked.
Global, gate or butterfly valve type; the size of the arm and body should be determined.
A multiplier or group lock box should be used for more than one employee.
It is difficult to lock with a standard device or provides flexible solution for more than one point.
It physically prevents the re-connection of pressure air connection.
The lock ensures that the labels and devices are visible, regular and accessible.
Standard and program components
A corporate energy control program; does not consist of just the purchase of equipment. written procedure, machine-based instructions, powers and responsibilities, training, periodic audit, group LOTO, wardy exchange and supplier applications must be managed together. International references include OSHA 29 CFR 1910.147 and ISO 14118 approach.
Frequently Asked Questions
Is it enough to close the machine from the stop button?
The stop button may not physically separate the energy source. it requires energy isolation, lock and verification.
Is the label alone enough?
The label provides warning; it does not replace physical lock in a lockable energy point.
Can one lock be used by more than one employee?
Personal lock must be specific to the employee. Multiplier or group lock box is used in group work.
What should I send for the product selection?
The photo, size, brand/model knowledge and work environment of the energy point in an open and closed position are a sufficient beginning.
Send a photo of the energy point; let's determine the appropriate solution together.
